4 Tips for Self-Care as a Freelancer

As a freelancer running a business, we are busy running the myriad of tasks and responsibilities to keep our clients happy. Let’s be honest, it’s easy to forget about ourselves and without proper care, stress can build up causing negative emotional and physiological effects. You can’t help others unless you are taking care of yourself. So how can you be sure to take care of yourself when life is so busy? Here are a few things that you can do to decrease stress and take self-care:

Sleep

Sleep allows time for our brain to recharge and our bodies to rest. Lack of sleep can affect your mood, judgment and memory. Make it a priority to get the 8 hours of sleep you need each night to help decrease stress and make you happier and healthier.

Exercise

Exercise helps increase your overall health and decreases stress. Exercise improves your mood, sleep and self-confidence. It gives you more endorphins, which makes you feel happier. Health experts recommend exercising 30 minutes 5 days a week.

Have Fun

Take time to “treat yourself” when you need it. Whether it’s reading a book, painting, playing sports, baking, etc. Figure out what you like to do and schedule time each day to have fun and relax.

Social Interaction

Take time to improve your relationships with others. Social interaction can brighten your day and reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
